Votive Candle Column

Just in time for that Fourth of July barbecue! This easy project is made from backlight film (see our Products section) and slips over any glass votive holder up to 2 inches wide. A simple way to dress up the table or place them anywhere in your yard for some special ambience! PLEASE NOTE: Backlight film IS flammable, so be careful!

MATERIALS:

Backlight film (see our Products>Fun Papers section)

Double sided tape

Votive candle in glass holder (up to 2” wide)

INSTRUCTIONS:

1) Open a blank page in your graphics program in landscape orientation.

2) Draw a straight line from the top of the page to the bottom and give it a light gray outline. This will serve as one of your folding lines. Make two copies of this line and place them so that the page is divided into three 3.5” sections. There will be a ½” section left at the end that will be the flap. (NOTE: It’s easier for printing purposes if you place the flap on the left side of the page on your screen. Those unprintable margins again!)

3) Place your clipart into one of the three sections and resize so that it hits the top and bottom margins.

4) Copy your design twice and place the two copies into the two remaining sections.

5) Print a test page on plain paper. Fold on all lines to check placement. If you are happy with the print out, print your candle column on the dull side of a sheet of backlight film.

6) Allow drying for a minute or two. Score and fold on the gray lines. Be careful when scoring if you are using a scoring blade. Too much pressure will cut through the backlight film.

7) Place double stick tape on the inside of the edge opposite the flap (it’s easier than placing the tape on the flap itself) and press the flap into place on the tape.

See? It’s that easy! So why not make a bunch of them and light up your yard with a holiday glow! And you don’t have to stop with the Fourth of July. How about other summer motifs? Flowers or fishes? Just let your imagination run wild!
