Photo Candle

This candle makes a great gift for a decorative accessory to match the décor or as a holiday ornament! The photos are printed on waterslip decals and applied to the candle. This candle shows two photos -- one on each side. If you use a white candle, you can use clear waterslip decals. If you choose a colored candle, be sure to use white waterslip decals since most inkjets do not print white and any white in your photo or clipart will take on the color of the candle if you use the clear decals. Great as a favor at a special party or just to add some personalized touch to your home décor!

MATERIALS

Candle

Waterslip decals (see Products>Waterslip Decals)

Decal finishing spray (see Products>Waterslip Decals)

Scissors or paper trimmer

INSTRUCTIONS

1) Open a blank page in your graphics program in portrait orientation.

2) Place your photos or clipart on the top of the page. Measure the candle and size your art work accordingly.

NOTE: If you are using the white decals on a colored candle, it is easier to use a background or border that has a straight edge. Otherwise, when you cut out the finished design, you may have some white edges showing when you apply the decal to the candle. This is not a problem if you are using clear decals on a white candle since the edges will not show when the decal is applied.

3) If you will be placing art work on both sides of the candle, make certain that the two designs are the same size.

4) Print out a test page.

5) If you are using the half sheet sized decals and your design is so large that it takes up the whole top half of your page then you may have to "trick" your printer into thinking it is printing on a full sized sheet (those pesky unprintable margins again!) If this is the case , then tape your waterslip decal to the top of a full sheet of printer paper, making sure that the scotch tape will not cover where the ink will be placed. Small pieces of tape--one at the top, bottom and on each side--wrapped around the back of the paper will make your printer think it is simply printing on a full 8 1/2" X 11" sheet of paper and you won't run into problem with the design cutting off at the bottom of the decal. If your design is not that large, simply insert the decal into your printer as per your printer manufacturer's instructions, set your print quality to "Best" and print the decals.

6) Let the decal dry for a few minutes before applying two to three coats of the decal finishing spray. Always remember to apply this spray in a well ventilated area and allow at least 30-60 minutes for each coat to dry.

7) Once the decals are thoroughly dry, cut them out. Soak in water for approximately 20-30 seconds and SLOWLY slide the decals off the backing sheet onto the surface of your candle. You will have a good bit of time to reposition the decal if necessary. Blot and smooth with a soft facial tissue or paper towel.

8) Repeat this process with the second design if you are applying to both sides of the candle. BE CAREFUL when applying the second decal as you may move the first one around without even knowing it!

9) Let the decals dry overnight and you have a personalized candle that is so beautiful you may never want to burn it!
