Have a little Halloween hob-goblin that just looks so adorable in their holiday finery that you have to take photos for all to see? Here’s a simple project that the kids can even help with – a magnetic photo frame to hold those cherished photos on your fridge or any other metal surface. (Okay, we did a little editing and “transplanted” the heads of our friend and Mr. Pumpkin – sincere thanks to our good buddy for allowing us to use this hysterical photo!) The clipart can be changed for various holidays and the magnetic inkjet sheets are easy to cut with a scissors and a craft knife. You can even make them water-resistant by spraying with a light coat of Inkjet Overcoat Spray.
MATERIALS
Magnetic Inkjet Sheets(see Products>Magnetic Inkjet Sheets)
Inkjet Overcoat Spray (optional)(see Products>Inkjet Overcoat Spray)
Scissors
Craft knife
Cutting mat
Ruler or other straight edge

INSTRUCTIONS
1) In your graphics program open a blank page in either landscape or portrait orientation (depending on the orientation of the photo you are using).
2) Pick the clipart you would like to use for your frame (we used three different pieces of clipart for our frame and grouped them into one picture.)
3) Center the clipart or group on the page. Draw a rectangle measuring 3.5” X 5” (or size that corresponds with your photo) with no outline and a white fill and center this on your clipart. Nudge, if necessary, to place the rectangle where you want it on the frame. This is the piece you will be cutting out to frame your photo.
4) Print a test page on plain paper to check sizing, etc.
5) Once you are satisfied with the print out, print the frame on a magnetic inkjet sheet. Allow to dry for about ten minutes so the ink will not smudge when you start cutting.
6) OPTIONAL: Spray with a light coat of Inkjet Overcoat Spray in a WELL VENTILATED AREA and allow to dry for about an hour before you cut out the frame.
7) Cut the clipart frame out and place it on your cutting board. Using your craft knife and a ruler or straight edge, cut out the white rectangle in the center of your frame. Trim any excess if necessary.
8) You’re all set to stick on the fridge with your photo! If it helps, you can attached a small piece of rolled scotch tape onto the back of the photo to hold it in place on the fridge or other metal surface while you stick the frame over it.
That’s it! These also make great party favors. Take Polaroids at your child’s Halloween party. Have the frames made up ahead of time with a photo opening that measures the same as the photo portion of the Polaroid (about 4” X 4”) and you can send your little guests home with a wonderful remembrance of their Halloween celebration!
How about using wedding clipart for a bridal shower favor? Or Baby clipart for a baby shower thank you that can be sent after the actual event? There are a million uses for this wonderful project! Just let your creativity rule!
